On June 20, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Armen Ashotyan received Tian Erlong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Armenia.
Welcoming the guest in the RA NA, Armen Ashotyan highly assessed the character and development dynamics of the Armenian-Chinese relations at the parliamentary level and expressed hope that the cooperation in the National Assembly of the new convocation will be closer. In this context Armen Ashotyan underscored the effective partnership between the relevant committees of the two countries’ parliaments and highlighted the activation of the cooperation between the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Groups.
In his turn Ambassador Tian Erlong congratulated Armen Ashotyan on being elected in the post of the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and wished him effective work.
In the course of the meeting the sides touched upon the cooperation on international platforms, as well as issues regarding the boosting of economic, investment and humanitarian policy. In the context of economic cooperation, issues concerning Armenia’s possible involvement in the initiative One Belt, One Road were discussed.
The parties also discussed issues on preservation of regional stability. In this context both sides referred to the gross violations of the ceasefire implemented by the Azerbaijani armed forces on the frontline between Artsakh and Azerbaijan on June 16 and 17. Regarding the issue Armen Ashotyan has noted that similar violations endanger the atmosphere of already fragile confidence of the region, which in its turn, endangers the stability of the region. “In the peaceful settlement of Nagorno Karabakh we expect more from the OSCE Minsk Group: undertaking more targeted and practical steps,” Armen Ashotyan noted.
At the end of the meeting the sides also talked about the formation of the working group Analytical Council created on the initiative of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and the goals of the activities. In this context the possible versions of cooperation with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Armenia were discussed.
